The Puppy Guide

The Puppy Guide: All you need to know about getting and looking after a puppy.

There are so many puppy breeds! How do we choose one?

Different breeds of puppy vary greatly in their size, temperament, characteristics, how active they are, how much grooming they need and so on. If you are unsure what breed to get the most important thing you can do is research! Research lots of different breeds by looking on the Internet, talking to owners, reading books, and watching dog programmes on TV.

Questions to think about when choosing a puppy breed include:

  • Do I want an active dog that needs a lot of exercise or a less active dog?
  • How much time do I want to spend grooming?
  • How big do I want the dog to be when it is fully grown?
  • What kind of temperament would I like the dog to have?
  • Will the dog be a family pet or a guard dog?
  • Will the dog be kept inside the house or outside in a kennel?
  • Does it matter if the breed is more prone to certain illnesses or what the average life span is?
