Labrador Puppy

The Labrador, or Labrador Retriever, is common as a family pet puppy.

The Labrador began as a fisherman's dog in Newfoundland and was trained to bring in the fishing nets. The fishermen brought fish to England and sometimes sold their dogs there, where the breed was developed as a gundog.

In recent times the Labrador has been the dog most favoured as a guide for the blind and is well known as a companion dog.

Labradors need a fair amount of exercise, though a puppy will need less than a fully grown adult dog. They enjoy swimming and should be given the opportunity to do so.

A fully grown Labrador will usually be 54-57cm tall.
